About Me

I’m Hui Yuan, most of my friends on the internet call me “Anne”. I’m a translator. Briefly speaking, language and communication are the two key words of me.

My interest in language and translation can be traced back way before I chose English Language and Literature as my major in university. The differences between Harry Potter translated in China’s mainland and that in Taiwan was the first topic about translation I studied at the age of 12. Motivated by the interest of bridging different cultures through translation, I decided to pend M. A. in Translation Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University after graduating from Xiamen University. During my graduate study, however, I found one specific area in translation — localization appeals to me more than theoretical studies since I always have curiosity in technology. Thus, I’m now pursing my second M. A. degree in Translation & Localization Management at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

This summer I’ve been an internship in marketing department at Sinovation Ventures. Besides working as an in-house translator for the department, I’ve got the chance to contact with many technology startups, which makes me profoundly understand their needs to translate and localize their products. With my expertise in translation, localization as well as experience in marketing, I’d like to offer service to those companies in need and to building the bridge between them and their target market.
