Tasha R. Rennels argues that the Thompson family in Here Comes Honey Boo Boo deviates from “’ideal whiteness,’ a whiteness that displays dominant cultural standards bolstered by neoliberalism, such as wealth, rationality, personal responsibility, and self-control.” Having watched an episode of the show, how do you think gender roles and relationships also mark the Thompson family as deviant from “ideal whiteness”?
