The meaning of social class in the United States is contested; various scholars value factors such as income, status, lifestyle, and occupation differently.  What factors do you think are the most important in defining social class?  What factors differentiate various groups such as the “ruling class,’ the “middle class,” the “working class,” and the “poor/underclass”?
