Mike- While I have never been on the highest sections of this trail in winter, I suspect that it would be doable, as everything is either well beaten snowmobile trails or roads which are plowed in the winter. I have a map of this kicking around somewhere - if I can find it, I will let you know its source. This should not be a hard run to follow, though. I do a lot of skiing on snowmobile trails in general - VAST packs them very well, so I am sure they are great for snowshoe running, or maybe even on well insulated feet. Forest Service 59, which runs behind the Rikert Ski touring area comes to mind - and goes on forever it seems.

As far as a TAM event, the logical places to start would be the Middlebury Area Land Trust office and/or the Town of Middlebury Rec Department. Keep me posted!

Best Regards

Jeff - love your site. A couple of us did a section of TAM today and loved it (me with some trail runners, the other with snowshoes). Anyways, where could I find a map of this 9 miler you did? Do you think it's runnable this time of year? Any other great runs in the 10m range you would recommend this time of year?

On another note, I emailed one of the organizers of TAM (I think) and asked if she would be interested in working with us to put on a 25k/50k event on the TAM with all proceeds going to the trail. I could probably get my company (Seventh Generation) as well as Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Clif Bar on board. Thoughts? Do you know anyone who could help get this off the ground?

Cheers,
Mike (Trailhead, Long Trail Running Club)
