Udall Undergraduate Scholarship–Who Should Apply

Are you working towards positive solutions to environmental challenges or to issues impacting Native American or Alaskan Native policy or healthcare?
Have you demonstrated your commitment to one of these areas through public service?
Do you inspire and motivate others to take action?
Are you committed to making a difference through civility and consensus building?

·         Tribal Policy For Native Americans and Alaska Natives focusing on multiple policy areas

·         Native Health Care For Native Americans and Alaska Natives pursuing health-related careers

Eligibility: current sophomore or junior; U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident; demonstrated commitment to work with environmental issues through academic study and activities. The Udall Scholarship provides up to $7,000 for tuition, fees, educational expenses.

Applications Open for the Frederick Douglas Global Fellowship (summer program)

During the four-week summer program, 12 fellows will travel to Washington, DC, Cape Town, Dublin, Derry, and Belfast to explore the legacies of Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, John Lewis, Nelson Mandela, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Daniel O’Connell, John Hume, and other giants of social change.  The program runs July 7 – August 4, 2023, with the first week taught virtually and the next three weeks taught on-site. Fellows will study how changemakers shaped pathways to peace, including the Emancipation Proclamation in America, the end of Apartheid in South Africa, and the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. Eligibility

  • Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident
  • Identify as an ethnicity typically underrepresented on study abroad programs (e.g. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander).
  • Submit a complete application no later than February 14

Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 Named Goldwater Scholar

Congratulations to Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 who was recently selected as a Goldwater Scholar! Lucia was one of 417 students selected from 1,242 college sophomores and juniors nominated for the award by 433 undergraduate institutions. With this scholarship, the Goldwater Foundation seeks to recognize and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the next generation of STEM research leaders in the US. Lucia plans to pursue a PhD in Marine Biology and study bottlenose dolphin communication.

PPIA Junior Summer Institute Applications Due Nov 1

The goal of the PPIA Fellowship Program is to help prepare to pursue Masters’ or joint degree, typically in public policy, public administration, international affairs, or a related field. The organization does this through the intensive study provided by participation in a Junior Summer Institute (JSI), through partnerships with universities across the country, and through an alumni network that provides opportunities to connect with nearly 4000 individuals who share the same interest in public service.

Each year, PPIA seeks out high-potential undergraduate students from universities across the country to participate in an intensive seven-week Junior Summer Institute (JSI) before their senior year. During their program, fellows are equipped with the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in graduate school and ultimately, in influential roles serving the public good.

Once a student has completed their JSI, they join an alumni network of leaders. In addition to the opportunities that this network provides for mentoring and career development, our alumni network has the opportunity to receive financial support for their graduate school education if they attend one of the programs in our Graduate School Consortium.

The deadline to apply for Summer 2022 is November 1, 2021.
