Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award November 28 Deadline This Week!

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Graduate Arts Award enables students or recent alumni with exceptional artistic or creative promise and financial need to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the US or abroad.  Awards can be as much as $50,000 annually.  In 2013, the Foundation will select up to 15 recipients for this award.

The award provides funding for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books.  Scholarship amounts vary based on several factors, including cost at the institution each recipient attends and other grants and scholarships the student receives.

MINIMUM ELIGiBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Jack Kent Cooke Scholars possess exceptional academic records and demonstrate unmet financial need. At a minimum, each candidate for the Graduate Arts Award must have:

  • Senior standing or have graduated from an accredited four-year US college or university within the past five years.
  • A cumulative undergraduate grade-point average of 3.20 or better on a scale of 4.0 (or the equivalent).
  • Demonstrated unmet financial need.
  • A bachelor’s degree by the start of the fall 2013 semester.
  • Plans to begin their first graduate degree program in the performing arts, visual arts, or creative writing at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2013.
  • Not have been previously nominated for the Graduate Arts Award.

While the Foundation considers artistic and creative merit first in evaluating candidates, competitive applicants must also demonstrate significant unmet financial need, which has two components:

  • Education costs that are appreciably greater than the total amount of other grants or scholarships the applicant receives.
  • Insufficient student and family income to meet educational costs

Phase One deadline is November 28, 2012 (closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Materials to be submitted:

  • Portfolio with descriptions and a summary
  • Short application including demographics, GPA, and other basic information
  • Financial information comprising of the last three years’ AGI for yourself and for your parent(s) if you are under 30 years of age

If you are selected as a semifinalist based on the Phase One application, you will be invited to submit additional information in Phase Two of the application process.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK.

The Chevening programme began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 116 countries worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support approximately 700 individuals. There are over 41,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university.

US Citizens are not eligible for this Scholarship but  international students may well be eligible.  You would need to be able to return to your home country for interview and intend to return to your home country at the end of the Scholarship.
