Public Service Scholarship Opportunities: Information Sessions on Wednesday, September 28

Come find out about several different scholarship opportunities that fund undergraduate and graduate study in exchange and/or preparation for public service work.

On Wednesday, September 28, 2011, a representative from Boren Awards for International Study will hold an information session from 12:15 – 1:30 in Library 201.

Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations. They focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. national security, broadly defined, and underrepresented in study abroad.

The 2012 application deadlines are:  Boren Scholarships Deadline: February 9, 2012; Boren Fellowships Deadline: January 31, 2012

An Information Session for the Truman Public Service Scholarship Program will be held from 4:30 – 5:30 PM in Axinn 219.   Truman Scholarships are offered to college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and are provided with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.  The 2011 deadline for Truman Scholars is Monday, October 31, 2011.

An information session on Public Service Scholarships targeting students from underrepresented backgrounds  will be held from 5:30 – 6:30 in Carr Lounge. Awards covered will include: the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program (juniors), the Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program (seniors), the Charles B. Rangel International Affair Program’s Graduate Fellowship Program (seniors), and the Institute for International Public Policy [IIPP] (sophomores). Arlinda Wickland, Director of Fellowships Advising, will speak.
