Marty,

If media reports are correct, Obama already benefited with a big fundraising event at Chez Clooney just after his announcement. Because donors typically represent the more ideologically-oriented voters in both parties, I expect that Romney may also capitalize among his partisans by opposing same-sex marriage in conjunction with the President's stance on this issue. But neither candidate is likely to lack for money this fall, so I'm not sure the financial implications of same-sex marriage will be all that decisive.

As for the Romney-as-bully story, I don't think it will have legs unless the media can uncover some type of "trend" in Mitt's younger years that suggests he's a serial bullier, or some other type of social shortcoming. As I noted in my latest post, I still think economic issues are going to drive the election narrative, and the results.

Matt, what’s your take on the fund-raising implications for both Romney and Obama on this issue? And do you think that Romney’s harassment stuff described in the Washington Post will have any lengthy impact on the campaign, or has it already started to fade?

Thanks,
Marty Lapidus
