From Gotham to ChiTown: Part 7

As compiled by Barbara Ofosu-Somuah (NYMP11)

When I first heard that there will be a Middlebury Posse from Chicago on campus next year I was so glad [to hear] of the Posse Middlebury expansion. I was excited that I would be able to meet other students from a different state who would go through the same process as I did. Now that I am on campus I feel like I have a new duty to fulfill. Ever since I have been on campus, all the Posse scholars have supported me in so many different ways. Now that twenty, not just ten, new scholars are coming in Fall of 2012, I look forward to being as welcoming to them as [the older] Posses were to me. I hope that Posse Chicago will continue to carry on the Posse traditions, values of leadership and support [here on campus]. I am also looking forward to meeting ten more amazing individuals who will bring their unique experiences to the Middlebury campus and inspire the people around them just as the Posse members have inspired me.

Rana for First-Year Senator

As told by Rana Abdelhamid (NYMP13).

My name is Rana Abdelhamid and I am running for First Year Senator for the class of 2015. Ever since I arrived on campus I have been inspired by all the extraordinary work that Middlebury students are doing on campus and that has pushed me to pursue my own passion in leadership [positions] as well. [Back] In New York City, I was involved in a lot of leadership roles, from student government to just being an older sister. Now as a student at Middlebury College, I would like to take on a new role as the voice for my class. I believe that the concerns of the class should be addressed which is why my campaign involves listening to students’ concerns and addressing them into my platforms. (This is why my fliers contain direct quotes from students about problems that they want to address.) As a First Year Senator I will continue to listen to the voices of my peers and ensure that they are brought to the table. I am also a part of Middlebury Posse 13 and the Posse community at Middlebury has really empowered me for this position through all of the support that they have to offer. Don’t forget to vote!

Elections are being held TODAY (Monday, October 10th, 2011)

Look for the e-mail from the SGA.

UPDATE: Congratulations To Rana! We wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to hear about your great work on the SGA.

Social Media Updates on Sept. 11th 2011

On Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 there were more people that had “heard” about the earthquake on Twitter before the aftershock had even reached them. In the 10 years since Sept. 11th 2001, the world of social media has grown exponentially alongside the generation that experienced the said catastrophe first hand. Today I want to share with you some of the thoughts that other scholars have expressed back on the anniversary day.

Karen: 9/11 and Convocation. ‘Tis bittersweet.

Aya: today idk how i feel…but i’m proud to be a new yorker.

Yashika: This commercial with the little kids singing to the firefighters just gave me chills

Kelly: 10 years ago today… heard my media teacher say to our class, “This might be the most important day of your lives.”

Becca: Remembering 9/11 ten years later

Andrew: RIP to the victims, and live in peace to all the survivors.

Carlos: Can’t believe it has been 10 years….To think I was in my 11th grade AP US History class watching out the window as it happened.

Diane: Uncle Joe, ladder company 101, a hero and a loving father. We miss you and we love you. Gone but never forgotten.

Rana: My prayers go out to the heroes who lost their lives because of what happened ten years ago.

Naya: 9/11 ninth gr. Living environment class mom called me to the office-its world war 3 let’s go home!-mad scared :(

Posse, can I trust you?

Can you name them all yet?
