Six Kingdoms of Life”

There are 9 taxonomic ranks in biology that form a system of classifying living organisms. Kingdom is the second highest from among these taxonomic ranks.

Living organisms are classified into one of the six Kingdoms of life, based on similarities or common characteristics. The six Kingdoms are :

  1. Animalia
  2. Plantae
  3. Fungi
  4. Protsta
  5. Archaeabacteria
  6. Eubacteria

Technium

“Technium” is Kevin Kelly’s term for technology as a whole. To emphasize the growing pervasiveness of technology in our lives, Kelly calls this “technium” the 7th Kingdom of Life.

The dodo is an extinct bird that was found in the island of Mauritius. It disappeared so quickly from the island of Mauritius in the 17th Century, that it has become the poster animal for sudden extinction. The phrase ‘gone the way of the dodo bird’ is used to refer to something that has gone extinct or out of use.

 

Encyclopaedia Brittanica

 

Latin for “British Encyclopaedia”, Encyclopaedia Brittanica is a general knowledge English-language encyclopaedia.

The 2010 version of the 15th edition, which spans 32 volumes,  was the last printed edition; digital content and distribution has continued since then.

 

 

Kodak camera

Kodak is an American technology company producing imaging products. It was founded in 1888 and during most of the 20th century, held a dominant position in photographic film. The company was so popular that the tagline “Kodak moment” entered the common lexicon to describe a personal event that was demanded to be recorded for posterity.

 

Kodak dominated the film photography market through most of the 20th century America. However, it began to struggle financially in the late 1990s as a result of the decline in sales of photographic film due to the arrival of digital photography.

 

T. rex

Short for Tyrannosaurus rex, T. rex is one of the largest of the known dinosaurs. This is the dinosaur that has received the most media exposure. It had a starring role in the “Jurassic Park” movies.

The phrase “the T. rex of (something)” is used to imply the importance of something, since T. rexes are regarded as the king of dinosaurs.

The Cambrian explosion was the relatively short span event during which most major animal phyla appeared, as indicated by the fossil record.

Terminator

The Terminator series is a 1984 American sci-fi action film franchise. Its premise is a battle between an artificially intelligent machine network that has grown self-aware, and the rest of the human race. The artificially intelligent network, in the franchise, wishes to eradicate all of humanity.

Syncretism is the combining of different beliefs, while blending practices of various schools of thought. Religious syncretism exhibits blending of two or more religious belief systems into a new system, or the incorporation into a religious tradition of beliefs from unrelated traditions.

CRISPT is a genome edition tool that is creating a buzz in the science world. It is fast, cheaper, and more accurate than previous techniques of editing DNA and has a wide range of potential applications.

It is a unique technology that enables geneticists and medical researchers to edit parts of the genome by removing, adding, or altering sections of the DNA sequence.
