Scéchenyl Chain Bridge

A bridge that spans the Danube River. It lies between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of the Hungarian capital, Budapest. The Scéchenyl Chain Bridge was built in 1839, becoming the first bridge across the Danube, in Hungary.

Europe’s second longest river. The Danube runs through central and eastern Europe (Germany to Romania).

 

 

 

 

 

Gresham Palace

Built in 1906 along the Danube River at the east end of the Scéchenyl Chain Bridge, Gresham Palace served as an office and apartment building. Today, it is a Four Seasons Hotel. Gresham Palace is an example of Art Nouveau architecture.

 

 

 

 

Szent István Bazilika

Szent István Bazilika is a Roman Catholic basilica in Budapest, Hungary. The basilica was completed in 1905 and is named after Stephen, the first King of Hungary. It is considered one of the most important churches in Hungary and is the third highest church in the country.

 

 

 

 

Castle Hill

The district on the west bank of Buda. It is full of historic sites and is famous for its views. Castle Hill is home to the Buda Castle.

 

Buda Castle

Built in 1265, Buda Castle was home to Hungary’s royal family. Most of what is seen today was built  between 1749 and 1769. Buda Castle lies on Castle Hill, and was declared part of the Budapest World Heritage Site in 1987. It is now a museum containing the history of Budapest.
