After participating in two pre-conference workshops exploring methods to teach culture via the tools of its language, the director joined forces with Prof. Roman Graf (German Dept., Middlebury), to give a presentation on “Study Abroad: Integral and Integrated Element of a Language Curriculum.” We explored the question of how students are prepared for their abroad-experience via a culture-focused language curriculum, and how specific elements of their abroad exprience, namely a core-course on German culture abroad, can support them with gaining knowledge and competence they can use when returning the home campus.
