Chris White’s(’63) family and friends have thoroughly enjoyed Mark Stamaty’s cartoon about Chris’ flag raising duties at Middlebury. Chris related the facts to you, but Mark’s embellishments were spot on. Almost 50 years later, Chris is still recognized for his creative ingenuity and persistence when dealing with situations others might choose to avoid. Only the beloved family dog, Tide, has beaten Chris at his game. Years ago, when she was eating up the insides of the car if left alone, the light bulb went off in his head, and Chris put her in a leather muzzle when he was shopping. day he came back to the car to find that she had chewed the muzzle that had been left on the dash. It seems that Chris passed the creative ingenuity trait to Tide.
Thanks so much for the laughs, and I can assure you that we will frame the cartoon to protect it from getting dog eared and worn from the many folks who enjoy reading it.
