Thanks, Robert for a great article and update.

I’d like to echo Greg Woodworth’s comments! I’m also a member of the MCAA Board and my firm has also hosted internships over the past 5+ years. Our experience with Middlebury students as interns has been nothing short of terrific.

If you are able to support students in this way and haven’t done so yet, I’d encourage you to consider making an internship available. You can post a MIDD-friendly job or internship online at go.middlebury.edu/employers.

If you have any questions, I’m sure career services will be happy to talk with you at 802.443.5100.

Great article, Robert. A couple of comments. First, The Middlebury College Alumni Association Board, of which I’m a member, is working hard to encourage alumni to create internship and employment opportunities for Middlebury students and graduates. Your article helps to highlight how important internships have become and the great job that Middlebury's Center for Education in Action is doing in this area. I would encourage all parents and alumni to consider creating an internship or employment opportunity for a Middlebury student or graduate. Second, my company, National Life Group, has had a strong internship program for several years. An intern’s ability to work as a team member is a critical competency and our most successful interns have been great team players. Problem-solving and communication skills, accountability, and a desire and willingness to work hard are also essential. We have had the good fortune of employing three Middlebury interns in the recent past. All three were stars and possessed these attributes in abundance. Hiring a Middlebury student as an intern is truly a win-win proposition. Thanks for this timely and well-written article.

From my perspective as a recruiter, this is a terrific piece and on point with the current job market. Employers have the luxury of considering several candidates for open positions. Those candidates who demonstrate high energy, a positive attitude, embrace teamwork, and have general high social intelligence will win the competition. The Middlebury experience certainly provides a strong foundation for graduates.

Hi. I am the parent of Gabriel (a/k/a Gabe '15). I loved your article-fantastic and spot on. Congratulations on the work you are doing with our kids. I am an attorney with a specialty in employment law and an HR consultant. After many years of being "institutionalized(!)," I started my own HR advisory practice in 2009 and counsel companies and executives on everything relating to employment. My practice and approach are a hybrid of the business, legal, and behavioral (I have my BA in Industrial and Organizational Behavior). My client base is becoming more and more composed of college age and college grads seeking employment, changing jobs, and trying to gain acceptance to grad programs. We focus on gaining acceptance through the development of behavior-based interviewing skills, decision-making, acceptable behaviors at work that transcend the generational differences, navigating toxic situations and bosses, and negotiating skills for advancement and financial rewards. If I can be of assistance to you in any of your projects or with any of your students, I would be happy to get involved. Very truly yours, Mara Weissmann
