Green Gold For Brighter Planet

Brighter Planet, the Middlebury, Vermont-based environmental company that emerged from a 2005 Environmental Econ course, has been named the country’s best small green business by the sustainability media outlet Treehugger.

Founded by Andy Rossmeissl ’05 and Jake Whitcomb ’06, Brighter Planet has evolved into a thriving company that advises both businesses and individuals on   sustainability best-practices, while also providing people with the tools to put advice into action.

Among the products offered and projects sponsored by Brighter Planet: credit and debit cards that direct a percentage of spending toward renewable energy projects (think green credits instead of frequent-flyer miles); carbon offsets; and small-scale renewable energy initiatives, such as dairy farm methane digesters and grid-connected wind turbines.
