The Appalachian Mountain Club is looking to hire a Maine Policy Associate in Brunswick, ME.

AMC is seeking a Maine Policy Associate to work directly with the Maine Policy Manager in furthering AMC’s conservation interests in the state of Maine, with some work in northern NH.  The focus of this position encompasses AMC’s involvement in the Mahoosuc Initiative, public funding for land conservation programs, engaging grassroots support for strategic land conservation projects, building a coalition for outdoor recreation, and promoting appropriate management of public land. As our Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) is a substantial component of AMC’s efforts in Maine, the Maine Policy Associate will also work with other MWI and Conservation staff to ensure continuity and consistency between the MWI and other Maine conservation issues.  This is a year round, exempt position based in Southern Maine with excellent benefits, reporting to the Maine Policy Manager.

Environmental Educator- JOB

mslc_logo_001Alaska Geographic is seeking experienced educators for a summer of learning, exploration, and sharing. Alaska Geographic is a managing partner of the Murie Science and Learning Center facility at the entrance to Denali National Park. The Center has a stimulating and nurturing working environment that is dedicated to introducing visitors to this fascinating and unique ecosystem.

Instructional staff will be involved in programs ranging from one hour to multi-day field courses for youth and adults. In a typical day, staff will give a one-hour indoor science presentation in the morning and then lead a half-day bus/walking educational excursion in the Park. Additional responsibilities include working as a guide on multi-day field seminars in the park while assisting guest instructors by taking the lead in group management, driving, safety, leave-no-trace practices, cooking, and logistics at a remote field camp. Maine Conservation Corps- Accepting Applications Now!

MCC is recruiting enthusiastic people to participate in a trail training program starting February 22, 2010. Successful participants will lead MCC teams from late May until mid August.  Teams are young adults (18 or older).  Team members are both men and women from Maine and other States. As a team leader, your responsibilities would include teaching and leading an MCC team doing trail construction, completing reports, coordinating food and logistics for 6 people, camping in tents and living with team members during service sessions. You would also have to be a safe driver.

Become a HEAL AR AmeriCorps Member

If you are interested in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as helping Low to Moderate Income (LMI) people make ends meet, you should check out the new residential energy efficiency retrofit program, HEAL AR. The program, created by the William J. Clinton Foundation and the State of Arkansas, performs energy efficiency audits for LMI homes, and then retrofits the homes to be more energy-efficient, which then allows residents to redirect money from utilities to other basic needs. The position available is as an AmeriCorps member. For the HEAL AR project, your living allowance is $950 per month. In addition, HEAL AR AmeriCorps members may be eligible to receive Health
Insurance and those members who complete a full-time term of service will receive an AmeriCorps Education Award currently valued at $4,725.

Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program

The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the inauguration of an exciting new program. The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP), funded by the Freeman Foundation, aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia. IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization.

The 9-week experience, from June 15 to August 17, 2010, arranged by IIE’s partner organization, the Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF), will take place in three cities: Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta. All program-related costs will be covered. Read more
