Seniors – Two AmeriCorps*VISTA Openings for 2010-2011

Attention May & Recent Graduates!
Middlebury College Alliance for Civic Engagement (ACE) Office has

Two AmeriCorps*VISTA Openings for 2010-2011

Are you graduating this May but looking for an opportunity to remain in the area for another year?! The Alliance for Civic Engagement (ACE) office is now recruiting to fill two AmeriCorps*VISTA positions for 2010-2011.

  • Service and Activism Initiatives Coordinator
  • Mentoring and Emergency Housing Coordinator

Service and Activism Initiatives Coordinator, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member:
The Service and Activism Initiatives Coordinator will have a strong focus in working with student service organizations and student leaders through the Service Cluster Board, serving as an advisor to the Board coordinator(s) and member groups. The VISTA will work with student leaders to increase their capacity to provide leadership to the overall volunteer programming on campus and also have a strong focus on enhancing efforts to serve low income populations. The member will work with ACE, student leaders, and community partners to research and develop training opportunities for students. This VISTA will have a strong focus in student advising, meeting community needs, and planning one-time events (e.g. MiddAction Fairs, mini MAlt trips in VT, Martin Luther King Day of Service, etc.).

Mentoring and Emergency Housing Coordinator, AmeriCorps*VISTA Member:
The Mentoring and Emergency Housing Coordinator position evolves from a partnership between Middlebury College, specifically the Alliance for Civic Engagement (ACE) office and the Middlebury Community Care Coalition (MCCC), a local not for profit organization.  This VISTA member will oversee campus initiatives regarding mentoring and emergency housing for low income populations. The VISTA will coordinate the Community Friends mentoring program and continue to develop the student volunteer base for MCCC and its emergency shelter, The Community at Charter House. Additionally, the VISTA will serve as the ACE liaison for other campus-based mentoring programs (e.g., DREAM) and coordinate other existing and evolving opportunities for engagement related to emergency and sustainable housing (e.g., John Graham Emergency Shelter, Addison County Community Trust). The VISTA will help with fundraising, participate in Addison County networks focusing on mentoring and housing, and increase student involvement in these two areas through proposed service, service-learning and/or internships.

Both positions require a valid driver’s license and a car and will continue from mid-August 2010 through mid-August 2011.

If you read earlier that these positions were pending funding and/or grant approval, both have now been approved! This is definite!!
