Development Associate

Description:

The development associate is generally responsible for fundraising and communications. In particular, this includes donor research, outreach, and follow-up, especially for major donors. The development associate is primarily responsible for maintaining donor data, grant information (especially deadlines), and for coordinating other interns in fundraising activities.

Communications responsibilities include working on our online web presence, including, but not limited to: maintaining our facebook profile and Cause, updating our Twitter account, and updating the website. In addition, the development associate is primarily responsible for drafting and putting together the quarterly e-newsletter. Internal communications responsibilities include maintaining the Asylum Access Google Sites and responding to PR and technological questions from our global offices.

Other responsibilities include executive assistance, such as scheduling and following up on meetings for the executive director, and a minimal amount of event planning.

This position requires good writing skills and a high level of attention to detail. It is necessary to be flexible and to keep track of multiple long-term projects. The development associate must be a “people person,” who enjoys researching potential donors and communicating with new people on a daily basis. She must be willing to make cold phone calls and to make the necessary follow-up calls for every outreach.

The Development Associate can be based either at our headquarters office in San Francisco or at Asylum Access Ecuador’s office in Quito, Ecuador. The Development Associate is paid on a stipend basis, and the stipend is the same regardless of location.

We are looking for someone to commit at least a year to this position. The job would start July 1st, 2010.

Qualifications:

Bachelors, preferred experience in working with nonprofits. Skills in Google Applications and Microsoft Office required. Fluent English ability required. Spanish ability a plus, but not required.

Salary:

$500/month
