British Documents from the past in China – trial through May 14

Until May 14, we have access to three Chinese history collections:

China: Culture and Society
Spanning three centuries (1750-1929), this resource makes available rare pamphlets from Cornell University Library’s Charles W. Wason Collection on East Asia. In addition, China: Culture and Society features a host of secondary resources, including scholarly essays, an interactive chronology, mini guides, and editors’ choices from the collection.

China: Trade, Politics and Culture 1793-1980
This digital collection offers English-language sources relating to China and the West, 1793-1980, including: papers of key individuals involved in the Chinese Maritime Customs service; papers of missionaries active in all regions of China; fully searchable run of the Chinese Recorder, 1867-1941, and more.

Foreign Office Files for China, 1919-1980
The complete British Foreign Office files dealing with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan during these decades of 1919-1980. The documents cover politics, industry, trade and cultural affairs and include eyewitness accounts, weekly and monthly summaries, and economic assessments and synopses on leading Chinese personalities.

Deutsche Sammlung German ebooks (trial through May 3)

For one month starting today, we have access to over 4,500 German ebooks covering the humanities, arts, sciences, technology, engineering, and medicine from publishers such as De Gruyter, Aarhus University Press, International Monetary Fund, Ohne Verlag, and Frank & Timme GmbH.

House of Commons Parliamentary Papers {trial access}

Until February 15 the Middlebury College Libraries has trial access to Proquest’s House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP), a full-text searchable database with the working documents of government for all areas of social, political, economic, and foreign policy from the 18th century to the 21st.

Factiva.com from Dow Jones is a business and general reference resource that includes information in the areas of business, current events, communications, technology, foreign policy, and more. For the trial, when you are on the FACTIVA site, go up to the first tab “Search” and choose “Search Builder”.

Vogue Archive

The Vogue Archive is a comprehensive collection of American Vogue issues from its inception in 1892 to the present. Every issue has been reproduced in high-resolution color and is searchable by designer, brand name and garment type.

ProQuest History Vault: Struggle for Women’s Rights, 1880–1990: Organizational Records

This collection follows the growth of the women’s rights movement in America from the campaign for women’s suffrage to the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment and beyond. The archive includes the National Woman’s Party Papers (1913-1971), League of Women Voters collection (1918-1974), and documents about the Women’s Action Alliance (1971-1996).

Trial access to Oxford Handbooks Online through December

Until December 26 we have access to all of Oxford’s fourteen handbooks in the Oxford Handbooks Online (OHO) collection. Middlebury currently has access to only three OHO collections: Philosophy, Religion, and Political Science.

Churchill Archive (trial access)

Now through January 14, 2013 we have access to the Churchill Archive.

The Churchill Archive includes more than 800,000 pages of original documents, produced between 1874 and 1965, ranging from Winston S. Churchill’s personal correspondence to his official exchanges with kings, presidents, politicians, and military leaders.
