What is happening during this time? We have scheduled a Load Test to be run against our production Banner Web system. During the system load test personnel from Middlebury College will work in conjunction with technicians at Ellucian to simultaneously Load Test and Performance Tune our Banner Database Server and the Banner Web (SSB) environments. To facilitate the testing all users must log out of Banner and remain logged out beginning at 9pm Eastern Time (6pm Pacific) each night until 3am Eastern Time(12 am Pacific) the following morning. Any user remaining in the system after 9pm ETwill be forcibly logged out by systems administration.
We appreciate your patience & cooperation as we continually strive for improved performance on these critical systems.

On Tuesday May 31st we’re going to change the categories on this blog, so if by any chance you’re using a feed of a specific category, that’s going to break. We suggest subscribing to the whole blog for maximum enjoyment! If you’re not a LIS staff member & would like to filter out the more staff related posts, you can subscribe to the new “Middlebury Community Interest” category after May 31st. The other categories will be “LIS Staff Interest”, and “Post for MiddPoints” which will cause the post to be added to the MiddPoints blog too. All the old categories except “The Essentials” will be converted to tags for easy searching.
The LIS Web team developed this new scheme, following recommendations that came out of the open meeting about the future of the LIS Blog (including a call for simplified categories). The AD Team reviewed and approved these changes. We welcome your comments.
Journals we access via ScienceDirect (which accounted for over 27,000 uses at Middlebury in 2009) will be unavailable this Saturday due to scheduled maintenance and upgrades. Estimated downtime in the Vermont time zone is 7:30 am-4:30 pm.
We access over 1000 online journals provided by Wiley (Wiley InterScience and Wiley-Blackwell). This coming weekend, Wiley will be launching its new platform for online access, the Wiley Online Library.
We have been notified that Wiley titles will not be accessible between 4 a.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday. If previous experience is any indication, there may well be at least sporadic problems for some time beyond that.
If you have trouble accessing Wiley titles after noon on Sunday, please send me an email.
We will be keeping an eye on this transition, and I will relay updates by adding comments to this blog post.
WorldAPP, the company that hosts Key Survey, has let us know that it will be unavailable on Saturday, July 31, 2010, between 2 am and 3 am EST.
The maintenance is conducted to apply some planned improvements to the hardware.
Once the maintenance is over, you and your respondents will be able to login and access surveys and forms as usual.
