				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Some have asked, &#8220;Is it really cost effective for me to be reading documents on an iPad with a back-lit screen instead of printing them out?&#8221;. Based on this <a title="How Much Does It Cost To Charge An iPad?" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/21/ipad-charge-year_n_1617016.htmlhttp%3A//" >article</a>, it is worth literally every penny.</p>
<p>For $1.36 for a year, when charging an iPad <strong><em>every other day</em></strong>, you can read a lot of papers! That amount of money would print 27.2 single sided sheets at the current printing costs on campus. Food for thought, don&#8217;t you think?</p>
<p>The study was only done using iPads but it would be safe to assume that the savings are similar with other tablets.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Every month I get a report about printing statistics from Papercut, the system we use to manage our printers. One of the things Papercut measures is how many pages did not get printed, and how much that reduced our carbon footprint. For January, nearly 10,000 jobs amounting to over 16,000 pages were not printed, saving 85.3 KG of carbon.</p>

Here&#8217;s how!<br />
To print from your laptop when on the campus network:<br />
Connect to http://go.middlebury.edu/papercut<br />
Logon with your Middlebury [email] username/password<br />
From the lefthand menu, select &#8220;Web Print&#8221;<br />
Click on &#8220;Submit a Job &gt;&gt;&#8221;<br />
Select a printer from the list<br />
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on &#8220;2. Print Options and Account Selection&#8221;<br />
Specify number of copies, if you&#8217;d like<br />
Click on &#8220;3. Upload Document&#8221;<br />
Click on &#8220;Browse&#8221; to select the document on your computer that you wish to have printed<br />
Click on &#8220;Upload &amp; Complete&#8221;</p>
