Sarah Washburn was hired as a Custodian in February. Prior to working at Middlebury, Sarah worked as an Office Representative at Addison Family Medicine for seven years. She lives in Orwell and enjoys spending time with her family as well as hunting and fishing.

Frank Beyette joined the Facilities Services team in February as a Heating Plant Operator. Previously he worked at Vermont Marble Power division where he ran thirteen hydro-electric generators and two co-gen electric generators. Frank is married, has two children and lives in Proctor, Vermont. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing and playing golf.

Abby Blum is an ’08.5 graduate of Middlebury College and began working in the College Advancement office in February as the new Assistant Director of Annual Giving. Abby has spent the last four years living in New York, New Hampshire, Montana and Massachusetts working on political campaigns. She shares that she is thrilled to be back in Vermont and working at Middlebury!

Andrew Bojanowski has worked at the Snow Bowl and golf course since 2009 but recently transitioned into his new full time role in February. He lives with his wife Margaret and daughter Nova at the Eddy Farm School for Horse and Rider on South Street Extension. A graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Andrew also enjoys snowboarding, golfing and gardening.

David took an early interest in cooking, dipping into the river of food service by helping in a summer camp kitchen. The next step was culinary arts at a vocational technical center in high school. He has stayed with it his whole life. He gained experience in the resort hotel world in both Maine and Florida. After ten years of practical experience in all of the different cooking stations over the years, David enrolled at New England Culinary Institute. From there he went straight to a chef position at a resort on Cape Cod until being recruited by Basin Harbor.

David had some interesting answers to a few light hearted questions:
What is your regular comfort meal?
“I enjoy seasonal foods. In the spring it is fiddleheads and brook trout.”

Cooking is mostly learned from masters. Who did you learn from and what did you adapt from them?
“One year, at a resort, I worked with an all European brigade. I was exposed to a vast array of foreign menus and food items.”

What is the largest number of people you have served at one function?
“2500”

Have the tastes of customers changed over the years?
“The most distinct changes have been dietary restrictions and food sensitivities.”

Amanda Reinhardt was hired as the Outdoor Orientation Trips Coordinator in the Dean of Students office. She will be working with the Orientation Steering Committee on the off-campus portion of MiddView. Previously Amanda worked as the Recreation Coordinator at Dean College. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire and acquired her MA in Counseling in Higher Education from the University of Delaware. Amanda now lives in Vergennes and enjoys hiking, climbing and cooking.

JoEllen Felkl began working at the College Bookstore as a Retail Merchandising Coordinator in January. Prior to working at the College JoEllen was employed as a Sales Consultant at Middlebury Transit. She is the mom of two boys and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching her boys participate in sports, horseback riding, and snowmobiling.

Scott Remick kicked off 2013 by getting hired as the new Senior Technology Specialist on January 7. A long-time Middlebury-area resident and Vermont native, Scott has held two previous long-time positions in the computer and IT field. Currently living in Bristol, he also enjoys camping, travel, cooking, biking and doing theatre.

Jeremiah LaCross joined the Facilities Services office this month as the new Safety and Regulatory Compliance Manager. Prior to joining the Facility Services team at Middlebury College, he spent seven years as the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator at Pike Industries, Inc. Jeremiah and his wife, along with their 17 month old daughter report that they were very excited to move from New Hampshire back to Vermont when he was offered the position with the College. He really enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing, skiing & hiking and tells us that he could not be happier to join the Middlebury College family.

Zach Schuetz was hired in October as a temporary Senior Technology Specialist. A 2011 graduate of Middlebury (Japanese + Linguistics), Zach will be helping out full-time at the LIS Helpdesk. He enjoys swing dancing, singing, and playing games of all kinds. He likes bad movies and good music, and dreams of sailing the high seas.

Marian Johnsen was hired as the Administrative Coordinator in International Student and Scholar Services in December.  Prior to moving to Middlebury, she worked in human services and in public policy in various non-profit organizations.  Marian enjoys hiking, camping, and canoeing, and spending time with her family.

Jennifer Stocker was hired as a Mail Clerk in the Student Mail Center at the end of August. Prior to working at Middlebury Jennifer worked as a cosmetologist for 17 years. She lives in Middlebury with her husband Adam and their three children. Jennifer enjoys bike riding, running and winter sports.

Allyson Kilbride was hired as a Telecommunicator in the Department of Public Safety in October. She is a recent graduate of the University of Vermont and has experience in human resources and customer service. Allyson lives on Seymour Street and enjoys art, writing and outdoor activities.

Joseph Aiello was hired in September as a floor crew custodian in Facilities Services. Joseph attended Mohawk Valley Community College and then owned a hair salon for many years. He reports that he is very happy to be a part of the Middlebury College staff.

Cathy Bersuder began working as an athletic trainer in the Athletics Department in August. She will be working with the women’s soccer team, the men’s ice hockey team, and the men’s and women’s tennis teams. Cathy is originally from Saline, Michigan, and received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Grand Valley State University. She earned her master’s degree in general education from Elmira College in New York. Cathy is living in Middlebury and enjoys crafts, sports, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.

Wendy Shook was hired as the new Science Data Librarian in LIS in August.  Wendy has a BSc in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Victoria, BC, Canada.  She was employed at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona and Gemini Observatory in Hawaii for many years and earned her MIS in 2011 at Charles Sturt University, NSW, Australia. Wendy shares that relocating from Hawaii to Vermont has been a grand adventure for the whole family!

Sara Cohen returned to the Admissions Office as an Admissions Counselor in August. During her senior year at Middlebury, Sara worked as a Senior Fellow in the office, and was able to get a small taste of the work of Emma Willard House. Sara shares that she loved her time at Middlebury as a student, and is excited to meet new prospective students and represent Middlebury in the territories she travels to, including parts of Texas and the southeast. She also enjoys being a permanent resident of Middlebury, and venturing further afield in Vermont than she had time to do as a student, particularly exploring new roads and trails and trying new restaurants!

Michael Tester was hired in August as a crew custodian-floor in Facilities Services. Michael moved to Vermont a year ago, but was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area and spent four years in the U.S. Marines. He sports a laid back attitude and work experience that has given him a large variety of opportunities.

Kevin Morgenstein Fuerst is the new assistant director of annual giving in College Advancement. Kevin graduated from Colgate University in 2005 and earned a master’s degree in higher education administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2006. Prior to coming to Middlebury, Kevin was an institutional researcher in Cambridge, Mass., and a K-12 school district administrator in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kevin loves all things food–growing, cooking, and eating. He shares this food obsession with his wife, Ilyse, who is a faculty member at UVM.
