Deadlines Approaching for Several Awesome Internships!

As you kick-off Spring semester, it’s important to start thinking about your summer plans. Many organizations and companies have already begun the application process–and deadlines are coming up fast! At the moment, there are over 100 outstanding internship opportunities om MOJO for students of all academic and career interests. Today, I’m highlighting a few that have deadlines coming up in the next few days. Be sure to head over to MOJO to learn more and to apply for these positions (and more!) today!!


Paid Summer Internship at El Pomar Foundation in Colorado Springs, CO

Deadline to Apply: February 17

Through various grants and programs, El Pomar Foundation  seeks to enhance, encourage, and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado. This Internship is a unique summer program that provides undergraduate students an introduction to the nonprofit sector and an opportunity to develop professional interests and skills. Interns work with and are mentored by leaders in philanthropy. They serve an important role by providing administrative support for the Foundation’s offices and receive assignments based upon the Foundation’s needs and, to the extent possible, the interns’ interests.


Mayor’s Internship Program-City of Philadelphia

Deadline to Apply: February 17

The Mayor’s Internship Program (MIP) with the City of Philadelphia is an opportunity for current college undergraduates and graduate students to learn about and contribute to the city government that manages operations for the nation’s 5th largest municipality. They host the best and brightest students from around the nation to come to Philadelphia every summer and see all the great city has to offer, contribute to projects, and take on tasks including:  complete grant applications, compile and analyze financial data, develop training and policy manuals, and assist in planning and implementing key City events across various departments and agencies.

The Arts/Theater:

Paid Administrative Internship at the Middlebury Town Hall Theater

Deadline to Apply: February 19
This internship is a total immersion into the complex and multi-faceted life of the theater–you will work in all areas of management and production handling contracts, promotional materials, email blasts, programming, and assisting with the summer Membership Drive. The intern will also be working as assistant stage manager, operating the light and sound boards, assisting with load-ins and talent hospitality, serving as a production assistant for both the Middlebury Actors Workshop and the Opera Company of Middlebury, selling tickets and assisting the front-of-house staff as needed.


Paid Architecture and Environment Internship Program at The Stone House Group in Bethlehem, PA

Deadline to Apply: March 15

Midd alum Larry Eighmy ’86 is offering this wonderful opportunity! The Stone House Group, founded over 12 years ago by a Middlebury alumnus, provides “building stewardship” for campuses and corporations, working with clients to ensure they are optimizing their resources, building to support their missions and setting and achieving environmental goals for their facilities. Summer Interns have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in The Stone House Group’s fast paced environment and then be eligible for full time employment upon graduation.

PAID Urban Education Internship for J Term!

Apply Today! Paid J Term Urban Education Internship at the Paul Cuffee School in Providence, RI

This great internship provides teaching and learning opportunities at the Paul Cuffee School in Providence, RI. The Paul Cuffee School is a public charter school, currently serving 625 students in grades K-10. The majority of the school population is from the city of Providence; most are students of color and live below the poverty level and for many English is a second language. The school is one of the top performing charter schools in the state and is a model for urban school reform initiatives!

The Paul Cuffee School is seeking two interns for J Term! Each student will be assigned to work as an intern with a classroom teacher in the elementary, middle school or high school program. Tasks will vary but may include: observing classes, tutoring, directing small-group work, working with special education students, working in the computer lab and working with outreach programs.

Local housing will be facilitated through Middlebury alumni, and a food stipend will also be provided. This opportunity is organized by Midd Professor Jonathon Miller-Lane in Education Studies. For more information about J Term internships go to go/wtintern today!

Investment Counseling Internship with Community Investment Counselors:

This is an opportunity to “shadow” our Investment Advisor Representatives by sitting in on investment counseling sessions with clients. Study materials,  as well as discussions with office personnel, would be a resource for further technical information relevant to the field of investment counseling. As part of the Internship experience, the student would have the opportunity to “sit in the client’s chair” and receive counseling regarding his or her own financial planning. Opportunities for a research project of potential benefit the office could be explored as well.

Business and Analysis Internship at Better Middlebury Partnership:
The Better Middlebury Partnership is seeking an intern to finish a project surveying the town of Middlebury business sector regarding attitudes, behaviors and needs and concerns related to retail and the general business climate. The intern will finish distributing surveys and then tabulate the results. The BMP’s mission is to promote and enhance business in Middlebury, to make Middlebury a better place to work, live and conduct busines. This survey will be an important tool in evaluating how to establish priorities for the future.

It’s not too late to secure a Winter Term Internship!

Though the credit deadline has passed, you can still secure and get credit for a Winter Term Internship! How? If you have not confirmed your internship by Nov. 7 (the day of J Term registration), simply sign up for another class and once you are approved for credit, you can just fill out an Add/Drop card for your internship.

Interested in the field of journalism?

Spend your J Term in as a News Reporting Intern at the Christian Science Monitor in Washington, DC.

The intern will work closely with chief political and White House correspondent, Linda Feldmann P’15. Duties include research, fact-checking, supplemental reporting for correspondents’ stories, and writing original stories both for the web and for the magazine. Intern may also be asked to assist with bureau administrative tasks, such as helping out at Monitor newsmaker breakfasts. Intern may also do some work in social media.

Winter Term Internships Part 3: Literary Publication and Journalism

 Today in our series about Winter Term Internships, we focus on some opporunitites for those interested in writing, publication, and journalism. Whether you write for Blackbird Literary magazine, love creative writing or are just curious about working in the industry–there are a few unique and exciting internships now on MOJO that I suggest you check out! 1. New England Review Intern at New England Review, Middlebury, VT

            Right off of campus! If you’re  interested in creative writing or literary publishing, this internship would give you an inside view of the nature and demands of literary magazine publishing, and introduce you to the day-to-day operations of the business.

Winter Term Internships Part 2: Education

For those who want to get some teaching experience and hands-on training, there are several internships in the education field now on MOJO. While some positions are more local, there are two internships in Latinamerica working to teach English to communities in Costa Rica and Ecuador! Be sure to get on MOJO and apply by Sunday, October 9th. Each of these opportunities would allow you to work one-on-one with educators and administrators in areas of sustainability, social justice, ESL and more!

1. High School Completion Coordinator at Vermont Adult Learning, Middlebury, VT

            Interested in education and the non-profit world? Vermont Adult Learning seeks an intern that will help make a difference in the lives of students by providing them better access to educational opportunities. You could combine your interest in the non-profit world with your background as an Education Studies major.

2. Social Justice in Urban Education Experience at West Denver Preparatory Charter School, Denver, CO

            This leadership development opportunity would allow you to expand your leadership skills through a mentorship with a teacher and administrator and provide you with insight on the instructional and administrative areas of education.

3. Sustainability Teaching Intern at New Canaan Country School, New Canaan, CT

               Passionate about education and sustainability initiatives? Spend a month working with students and faculty to address environmental issues through projects, lessons, and research both in and out of the classroom.

4. Teaching Assistant/Intern at Escuela República de Suiza, Norsara, Costa Rica

              Interns would work individually with local students to advance their skills in English communication, reading, and writing. This would be particularly of interest to students with a background in ESL training, involvement in Juntos, or Spanish proficiency.
