September 11th incident – Staff Council statement

Categories: Uncategorized

The Middlebury College Staff Council recently sent this email to all Middlebury College staff:

Members of the staff of Middlebury College,

The Middlebury College Staff Council strongly rejects disrespectful behavior in any circumstances. The recent disruption of a solemn memorial display by very few people in no way represents the welcoming social and physical environment of the Middlebury College campus that staff members work hard to help provide. We support President Liebowitz when he said, “the disrespectful methods of the protesters overshadowed anything that might have been learned from the convictions they claimed to promote.” We further support the administration’s disciplinary investigation.

To foster more open dialog on this important matter, we have posted this statement on our blog and welcome your comments there.

Next Learning Lunch – Judaism, July 27th

Categories: Uncategorized

Starting about a year ago, Staff Council followed up on the recommendations of some staff members that Staff Council help employees further develop current interests or stimulate new ones by providing opportunities to benefit from the stellar learning resources available on campus and nearby. One of the ideas proposed was to have a series of talks that would each focus on a different religion.

Staff Council is very pleased that Rabbi Ira Schiffer has agreed to help us kick off this ongoing series by presenting an overview of Judaism.

Please BRING YOUR LUNCH, and join us at noon on July 27th in Warner Hemicycle.

Seeking Your Input – Your Voice Matters

Categories: Uncategorized

Following up on Arabella’s post about MCSC seeking input from Staff to present at the October meeting with the Trustees, Staff Council has published a short survey to allow staff an opportunity to raise their voice.  The data collected will be used to prioritize the issues that Staff Council discuss with and present to the Trustees.Currently, there have been nearly 200 responses to the survey since it was distributed to staff earlier this week.  The data and comments shared thus far are proving very informative and will certainly help our efforts to focus the conversation with the Trustees upon the issues and concerns of the staff as a whole.  MCSC is working on a method to present to staff the findings of the survey.

So if you have already responded to the survey thank you.

If you have not responded you still have until September 30th to do so.  Click here to link to the survey

Lastly, please encourage other members of the college staff to find the time to raise their voice show their satisfactions and concerns via the survey.

Please talk it up and encourage your coworkers to fill it out.
