I've been an advocate of MarcEdit for a while - I think it would simplify a lot of our tasks (e.g. adding specific fields/text to each bib record in a batch load, etc.) and obviate the need to do that all via load tables.

Thanks for this recap, Arabella!

Hi Frank,

We are considering the effects of leaving the 35 mm projectors in a few locations. In some places this may be OK - the projectors are secured in a booth. In other locations they may be too exposed and likely to get damaged. Given that new units are not being produced, we are thinking about placing most or all slide projectors back in our stock and delivering them to locations by request. This way we could ensure they do not get damaged and also inspect them before delivery to make sure they operate as expected. Problem lies that if they are not used periodically the mechanical mechanism will seize up. We could control this if they were in our stock...

Keep the ideas flowing!

Thank you,
Petar

I quite understand transitioning away from technology like laserdisks, and even VHS, but I have a harder time with eliminating the capability of projecting 35 mm slides. I have a collection of thousands of 35 mm slides, which I have used for years of teaching introductory astronomy. Many of the images are available in digital form, but many are not and would require scanning. In any case, several person-months of effort would be required to convert my collection.

Happily, I am retiring this year, so I personally will be minimally affected by the change. (Though I can imagine giving an occasional lecture, or even teaching a course where I'd like to use my slides.) Still, I question the wisdom of removing perfectly good 35 mm projectors in rooms like MBH 216. Is there something else that requires the use of the shelf where the projectors sit?

So I hope ITS will keep existing 35 mm projectors in MBH216 and elsewhere, where they can be retained without a negative impact on more current technology.
