Apple Inc. released their latest version of Mac OS X last week, version 10.7, otherwise known as Lion. There are lots of new features in Lion and a clear influence from Apple’s iOS.

Middlebury will not be moving immediately to Lion, rather we will be staying at version 10.6 for the 2011-2012 school year. Compatibility issues of older machines and applications is the main reason for not jumping immediately to the new OS. LIS will be conducting system testing over the course of the academic year and deployment is planned for the Summer of 2012. Not rushing into deploying the new OS will give Lion time to mature as an operating system, working out any bugs or “features” that may effect Middlebury.
