Welcome to the first issue of our new, as-yet unnamed, quarterly online newsletter designed to keep the Middlebury College community informed of all things Library.

As you may have noticed, we are searching for a name for this newsletter!  We hope you will visit our Doodle poll and vote for your favorite newsletter name, to be unveiled in time for our next issue in September.

Our hope is that this newsletter will help patrons learn more about the wide array of resources, services, and spaces available to them from the library as they pursue their research, prepare for their classes, and share their own knowledge with the rest of the world.

In this inaugural issue, you’ll find:

  • profiles of political science faculty member Orion Lewis, library student worker Vanessa Dikuyama ‘18, and newly arrived Director of Academic Technology Bill Koulopoulos
  • an introduction to our library subject guides to get you started with your research
  • technology and research tips to make using Summon and Google Scholar more powerful
  • news from Special Collections & Archives highlighting life in Vermont and at the College around the mid-20th century
  • a quick list of the materials most commonly requested from us by other libraries via Interlibrary Loan
  • a calendar of upcoming events hosted by the libraries, academic technology, and Information Technology.

The world of scholarship and teaching is changing at a rapid pace, and the library is evolving to meet the demands caused by these changes. In future issues, we expect to include articles and updates on:

  • the digital liberal arts initiative
  • the open access working group
  • the new videoconferencing facility housed in the Davis Family Library
  • our monograph deselecting project
  • strategies for incorporating information literacy and information management into your course and into your life

We welcome your suggestions on future topics. Please feel free to email either me, Mike Roy, or Terry Simpkins, our newsletter editor.

And for library news junkies, you can always find even more information at the blog we share with Information Technology Services.
