The governor (Pfiefer) tries to stall by listing off the names of his wife’s sisters, who were all named after minerals. The name of the youngest sister, as S. learns, is Substantia, the “blue-black material” that Vévoda has been trying to extract. S. get judgmental, criticizing the governor for helping Vévoda get this substance, even though his friends all died trying to prevent him from doing so. The governor deflects, saying that “This is nowhere near as much as he needs.” S. curtly silences him, and the governor asks if S. is going to kill him. S. replies, “enough.”

Jen and Eric continue the dialogue from the previous page, with Jen suggesting that he’s trying to “butter up” Eric. Eric realizes this, but is still surprised that Moody is still trying to recruit him again. Jen replies, For as long as it takes him to get the book out.
