As he looks through the pictures, S. searches for characteristics which make people stand out. He finds one with a man holding a newspaper. It doesn’t take him long to conclude that the paper is in German which is interesting considering S. suffers from amnesia and remembers very little. He must have had knowledge of what German looks like in his old life

The man behind the newspaper is the man from B–––. It is the man with “the more sinister presence.” Eric connects this to “the park where [Jen] went missing” to which she decides they should go there on their “next date. And no work, just [them].” Which is significant because it likely means that this takes place after Jen finally tells Eric the truth about what happened. This is a sign that they are being completely open and honest with each other.

Jen and Eric link the photos S. is rummaging through to photos from the KGB regarding Straka’s identity. When Eric says “none of [the photos have] any of the writers that were in the S.” Jen talks about how there might have been other writers they didn’t know about but she crosses that out and says “there were others in it, too.” This clarification is a statement about the existence of The S. She is essentially saying that it exists.
