S. and Corbeau jump out of the cave and start falling down. S. senses a memory as he falls: ” Corks flying on a New Year’s Eve. A room full of people, of faces and bodies and spirits. A fire in a hearth. A sense of himself, as — well, as someone.”

They fall as the bullets fly past them. He realises that he and Corbeau are in this together and are the remaining two out of the only group S. has belonged to.

Jen finds out the original text wrote: “they are falling, they are falling, they are together and falling.” rather than “they are falling, they are falling, they are falling.”
