The man continues to observe the city that he is in. He points out that “this is a city in which even life-long residents find themselves lost.” And emphasises the uncertainty of himself and the surrounding with three ” does not know” sentences.

Through the observations of the “shadows at odd, seemingly random, angles,” the man concludes that ” light behaves differently” in the city. And adds the comment: “this is a city of ancient and flawed geometries.” In the margins, Eric and Jen point out similarities (Nazca Lines, Painted Cave ) between Ship of Theseus and another work by Straka, The Spotted Cat. The connection hints that other works by Straka have similar themes or related in some way.

“This is a man who does not attract attention.” Giving a hint to the man’s identity early on, Straka doesn’t provide a name or any physical features, but an attribute to the way he moves. In the margins, Jen teases Eric by bringing up the anecdote of Eric being seen by his professor’s graduate student.
