p. 15

S is in a tavern, which is a low brick building on the corner of two streets. When he sees the symbol of S on a brick, the same one he had on the paper in his pocket, he feels a sense of fate guiding his to that place. The scene in the tavern is nasty. The first paragraph describes this mysterious man in the wet overcoat and his interaction with the bartender. The use of the phrase “sonofabitch” as a single word is also noteworthy of Straka’s style and choice of wordplay. The man is portryed as one who has been on a long journey and is observant of the surrounding of the tavern, which consists of needy “sonofabitches”

On the marginalia, Eric and Jane discuss about Eric being notified by an unheard group that tey would support his research after they were impressed with the paper Eric gave at the straka conference in lisbon, portugal(Image attached). When Jane tries to pinpoint Eric’s humility, Eric tells Jen about Moody affirming to the fact that his paper sucked. Jane suggests that Moody might be needing a consideration in his personality.

Congrats! You know, you’re probably the only one who thought it sucked.

MOODY THOUGHT THAT. HE WAS PRETTY CANDID ABOUT IT ACTUALLY.

Moody needs a severe personality adjustment. So are you going to cash the check?
