我看到的是一群決心要把中文學好的同學，太棒了！
Away for a year, coming back to teach only makes me miss teaching and learning more. Why? I never imagine that learners will be so motivated to write both English and Chinese on their reflection blogs, but some of the learners took initiate in doing so. What else can I say?! Except that I am 感動萬分to have great students in the Chinese Studies Program!
我读者几个好友的博客/部落格，想着过去、现在、未来的时空交错， 曾几何时我们也说“十年前”、“二十年前”， 曾几何时那样的对话变成现在的独白。昨天Clayton读他写的“人生如戏”， 今天我抒发的是对未来的回顾。
做老师好几年了，从幼儿园到研究所都干过了，这几年突然发现什么是“教学”，教学就是用心去了解别人，愿意去沟通，能去体会“恰到好处”，能不以自己为主，愿意去听，愿意去了解，那就能帮助他人， 然后才能“供其所需”－－其实就是“静心”去把爱找回来，就能重新找回“了解”究竟是什么味道。用心、有情、有义，做个好人，做个好学生，做个好老师！
THE QI MOVEMENT
A lot of things happened these past few days, some are good and some are bad. Some are so good that makes me think DO I DESERVE THIS; some are so bad that makes me think OH WAIT DO I DESERVE THIS. And I start to think about where all these “positive” and “negative” thinking of mine and others come from, and how we should combat or compromise with these. In life, people strive for surivial in the world, some choose to stab people behind their back but barely able to face themselves in the mirror, some choose to embrace life and love others. It’s all about QI and LOVE! The concept of QI “energy” 气 is the energy and force in the universe, and what we human beings try to learn is to transform our QI from YIN to YANG and YANG to YIN. And I think QI is related to LOVE. Positive QI is translated into LOVE and CONCERN, negative QI is translated into MAD, ANGER, etc. But what should we do if we stay in the zone of negativity? I think we should just step out from the zone. HOW??? Go to dance, walk, run, sing, just do some work out to balance MIND and BODY. That is YIN and YANG, and that is what keeps us human beings intact. Let the QI flow like water, let LOVE and CONCERN permeate in the air! Jiayou 加油 Mama, jiayou you and me! (加油 Jiayou: rooting for people)
Nature has its own WAY to take care of its business. The one thing is that as soon as a thing reaches its extremity, it reverses its course: 物極必反 wu4-ji2-bi4-fan3 (object-extreme-must-reverse). I still believe e-pen won’t replace regular pen and pencil because nature, the WAY, is my company 🙂
On “Individualization” Spring 2007: I came by John Steinbeck’s former house (MIIS) right after a summer walking by Robert Frost’s path (MIDD). What welcomed me here are bunch of GREAT students who were eager to learn Chinese and used Chinese to conduct research: Erin, Cait, Keegan, Scott, Rajeev, Ted, Luke, Daniel, etc and many more. I taught them with what I believe: Gedankengang (think-path) 思路. I hope they can find their path along the WAY of their Chinese journey. Luckily, I have many students who believe in what I believe. Thanks, Rajeev, thanks, Daniel, thanks, Valkyrie, thanks, Jasper, Ena, Yifei, Alan, and many more … Rajeev was chosen to be advancement fellow, and on 11/13 Daniel was chosen to be the graduation speaker …

I launched “New Pencilbox Movement” on October 15th, and I didn’t specify what that really is. My deep belief is that you will understand when it comes to you! So these days, students, friends have approached me about “New Pencilbox Movement” because they know what I am talking about. Pencilbox, paper and pen: it’s a way of communication, a place where people think before they type. So today Yvonne coined this word for me, “yo! pencilboxers“! Isn’t this COOL, and are you one of us?! 致人而不致於人
