Grading
  • Active Participation                                    10% (includes class discussion, writing workshops)
  • Informal Think Writes                               10%
  • Formal Papers 1, 2 and 3                           45%
  • Final Research Paper                                  25%
  • Oral Presentation of Research                  10%

This is a rough breakdown and should serve only as a guideline.  Active, thoughtful class participation and well-argued papers are necessary for both “A”s and” B”s.  An “A” student will excel in the work.  A “B” student will engage with the work responsively and is above the class average.  A “C” student will complete all the assignments and participate in class, but will show little effort in doing the work thoughtfully or engage in class discussion

Honor Code

Please consult the College Handbook for Middlebury’s policy on plagiarism and the honor code.  All students are expected to be familiar with these codes and to observe them diligently.
