Welcome to the Peace and Social Justice (PASJ) course website!

PASJ is a content- and language-integrated learning (CLIL) course designed for adults who wish to improve their English while learning about and problem solving for contemporary social justice issues. The site’s syllabus exemplar is designed to meet the organizational and student needs of an intensive English as a second language (IESL) program that prepares students for undergraduate and graduate level studies in the U.S. However, the PASJ course is flexible in its design, and thus able to accommodate a range of so called “second language” education contexts. To inquire into how the course can be adapted to suit the needs of your classroom or educational organization, feel free to contact the course designer at dwoods@miis.edu.

What is social justice?

Social justice can be defined as “full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs,…in which the distribution of resources is equitable and all members are physically and psychologically safe and secure,…in which individuals are both self-determining (able to develop their full capacities), and interdependent (capable of interacting democratically with others).”
