Welcome!

For our final project, we chose to analyze a Home Economics and Household Management project binder made by Bessie C. Jennings, a student of Middlebury College who graduated in 1918. In order to fully understand the context behind the binder, we decided to research the history of home economics as an area of study. We began by reading about home economics throughout America, but eventually focused in on the courses of home economics taught at Middlebury College specifically. We also endeavored to learn more about Bessie’s life, both during her years at Middlebury and post-graduation. Finally, having acquired all of this background information, we were able to study the binder thoroughly, and give it the full appreciation that it deserves.Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 3.34.00 PM
