The First Two Months

It has almost been two months since I started my practicum at UCSF International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO). It has been a busy two months filled with planning fun events, meeting our international students and scholars, getting to know my co-workers, and of course learning a lot while doing my various projects.

Here are some photos from the last two months:

Every third Thursday of the month, one of our ISSO staff members leads a city tour around one of San Francisco’s many neighborhoods. In September, we went to Noe Valley and learned about the history of Mission Dolores and the surrounding area. This was one of the first events where I got to meet our international students and scholars.

On Sunday, September 28, 2013, we held an ISSO BBQ & Mini World Cup at Golden Gate Park at Lindley Meadow. It was great to see 120 of our international students, scholars, and their families all come out to kick off the start of the semester.

Welcome!

Heather FrankHello everyone! My name is Heather Frank and I am a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in the International Education Management program. Prior to coming to Monterey, I lived, worked, and studied in Europe and Asia for five years. After graduating from a small American liberal arts college in Switzerland called Franklin College, I moved to Taiwan to work for Intrax, an education abroad exchange organization. Living in Taiwan for three years, I was able to explore my interests in both international education and Chinese culture as I worked with international students and learned Mandarin everyday. Through my Master’s degree coursework, I have become passionate about Intercultural Communication Training as well as the Cross-Strait Education of Taiwan and China, and have focused much of my research on Foreign Branch Campuses in Mainland China.
