You are on campus. Why make an Abroad Blog?

Hello world,

This is my first blog post.  You may have pondered the question:  Why is Timothy Garcia writing a blog about being abroad when he is spending his entire senior year on campus at Middlebury College?  Well, I am doing this because I have attended Middlebury College for three years and I often feel like I am abroad and like I am in a foreign place on campus.  I get this feeling even after three years at Midd and I wanted to take the time to document my thoughts as I go through my final year at Middlebury.

To start, I will list norms and expectations for this blog:

This blog is NOT for me to list everything I hate about Midd.

This blog is NOT for me to bash anything or anyone at Midd.

This blog is NOT for others to bash anything or anyone at Midd.

This blog is NOT to attack anything or anyone at Midd.

This blog is NOT a space for me to be purposefully disrespectful or crass.

This blog is NOT a space for others to be purposefully disrespectful or crass.

This blog is NOT a space for anonymity.  Bring your identity to the table and your experience.

This blog IS composed my personal thoughts and experiences.

This blog IS a space to be honest and real.

This blog IS retrospect from all of my years at Midd.

This blog IS meant to challenge my own and every readers perspective and opinion.

This blog IS a space required to be critical.  Every participant must think critically, analyze critically, and respond critically.

This blog IS meant to provide a space for me to present my voice and create conversation on possibly difficult topics. I am NOT the VOICE of the people, or of a subset of people but simply a voice for myself.

Lastly, getting my thoughts across clearly through writing is an area of growth for me.  Therefore, I have taken to writing a blog to practice and become a better (clearer) writer.
