In the late nineteenth century, Middlebury College did not have an intercollegiate tennis team, but the sport was popular nonetheless. Students formed teams by fraternity. Note that “co-eds” also played tennis alongside their male classmates. In the drawing, note romantic pose of the male and female athletes.
