UCL will be making a series of visits to the USA between September and November. They will be attending the IDEAList Grad Fairs across the country.
We have had connections with UCL’s Medical Anthropology program, with some alums pursuing their master’s degree.

Gapforce (www.gapforce.org) is an organization specializing in overseas volunteering and conservation projects, work placements and internships, lasting from 2 – 16 weeks. Their Head Office is in the UK, and due to growing interest from US students, they are now looking to branch out into America.
As a bit of background – Gapforce is an established provider of structured Graduate and Undergraduate programs overseas. They offer volunteering placements, expeditions and internships across 5 specialist divisions, but I am including here only the one that would interest pre-meds:

Eko Tracks offers a veterinary study abroad program in South Africa specializing in wildlife veterinary science. The program includes wildlife diseases and medicine, capture and care of wild animals, breeding of rare species, wildlife rehabilitation, ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. Students assist with community work, participate in game capture, learn about elephant biology, a visit to a wildlife rehabilitation center, nature reserves and the world renowned Kruger National Park. Upon completion of the program, you receive 8 credits from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students in veterinary science, vet technology and pre-vet, as well as veterinary scientists and practitioners.

With support from the former Whitaker Foundation, IIE provides undergraduate biomedical/bioengineers (and those in a related field) funding for a semester or one academic year to pursue coursework, research, or an internship, in an international setting that is approved by their home university, which is relevant to biomedical engineering (BME). Award amounts range from $7,500 for a semester program to $10,000 for an academic year program.
To be eligible for the award, an applicant must:
Students who already have the cost of the program fully covered may not apply for the scholarship and receive duplicate funding. However, if the program is only partially funded by another source, the applicant may apply.
A student may apply to attend any overseas academic institution that is endorsed by the student’s study abroad advisor. The advisor must certify that the program is approved and the student will receive academic credit at the home institution. The advisor must also certify the student’s financial aid need.

This is a friendly email to start communication for the 2013 Spanish & Medicine programs. These short-term (three or six week) study abroad sessions are suitable for prehealth students and feature a Spanish immersion course and medical shadowing. Sign up for program updates here.
Proficiency in Spanish is not required, however we encourage students below intermediate to come a few weeks early.
