Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, I completed my undergraduate work at Hampshire College where I investigated rock varnish microbes with Jason Tor. I worked for two years on hydrokinetic feasibility projects in rural Alaska with Civil Engineer Tom Ravens at University Alaska Anchorage. I received my PhD from Cornell University in 2015 where my research in the Hewson Lab centered on environmental bacterial and viral communities. Currently, I’m working as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Middlebury College where I focus on molecular microbial ecology. When I’m not in lab I love to rock climb, cook, go on adventures with my partner and dog, play the ukulele and guitar, and garden.
