Workshop

Wednesday January 27, 9:00 – 12:00 followed by lunch and conversation from 12 – 1 in the Crest Room.

During this workshop, limited to 12 participants, you will develop the seeds of one op-ed or first-person essay. Arrive with two to three possible ideas you would like to develop (these ideas should be no more specific than a topic statement, say, on a first-year paper, as in ‘what Chi-Raq gets wrong about Greek drama’ or “why Title IX is ruining academia”)  Together, we will shape one idea into a clear, workable, topic and sketch out what the piece would contain. Then, individually, and guided by the instructor, participants will outline the piece, identify additional interviews or research needed, if any, and brainstorm potential markets. By the end of the workshop you will leave with a draft of an essay and a roadmap for how to publish it.

If registration is full, individuals may sign up under the wait list option. If a space becomes available, we will contact individuals on the wait list prior to the session.
