I guess I’ll just list some stuff I like that not everyone would automatically know about (mozart, beethoven, and haydn stuff) / about all of what I’ve actually heard (most of which I listened to in Su’s class or otherwise school related):

    Solo Piano:
    Chopin’s preludes (especially E minor)
    Erik Satie (gymnopedies and gnossiennes)
George Gershwin (CD called Gershwin plays Gershwin; piano arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue on this CD is phenomenal)

    String Quartet:
    Bartok (especially No 4)
    Ravel’s string quartet
Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber
    Black Angels by George Crumb

    Orchestra:
    Charles Ives (all FOUR symphonies)
    Nielsen (first symphony)

    Opera/Musical Theater:
    Gershwin – Porgy and Bess
    Purcell – Dido and Aeneas
    Benjamin Britten – Peter Grimes
    Bernstein – West Side Story
Mozart operas (die Zauberflöte [The Magic Flute])
    Rent – Jonathan Larson
    Cats – Andrew Lloyd Webber
    Little Shop of Horrors
    Fiddler on the Roof
    The Producers
    Moulin Rouge
