About the Library

William Tell Coleman Library Library Entrance

Located at the center of campus, the William Tell Coleman Library houses a print collection that supports teaching and research at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. The library is also the gateway to a wealth of online research materials.

The Institute library’s specialized international collection has 100,000 volumes, more than 600 print periodical subscriptions, and 35 daily and weekly newspapers. One third of the collection is in languages other than English. Special subject strengths of the collection include bilingual and multilingual dictionaries and glossaries, international business, language teaching, international environmental issues, nonproliferation, international development and human rights.

Our affiliation with Middlebury College has significantly enhanced library services. Because of this affiliation, we are able to support student coursework and research with Electronic Reserves, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery through OCLC, and access to a shared collection of over 15,000 electronic books as well as databases like NBER Working Papers and Source OECD.

The library subscribes to over 50 online databases as well as over 400 online academic journals and 2 international digital newspaper collections. With 20 computer workstations, full access to the campus wireless network, and remote access to subscription databases and journals, the library is the hub for online research on campus.
