I also created a wiki page here.
The microfilm splicing equipment has moved to P&P, and film may be forwarded to him for repair as necessary (or to me, over the remaining five or so weeks).
A heads up that there are currently 30 students working on an assignment that requires the use of the microfilm reader. Please be prepared to assist users with navigating unfamiliar technology.
ILL staff and student staff are experts in using the film readers. They may also be able to help assist users unfamiliar with the readers.
Take a moment on your next shift to walk over to the film readers and follow directions to familiarize yourself with the equipment, so you can help others.
Please direct reader/printer problems to Stacks, or Helpdesk if unavailable.
There are also some tips on the wiki.
Problems/issues with the microfilm reader/printers?
Please refer to Rich Church and post an “out of order” sign.
If you are really lucky you have never had to use a microforms printer to complete a research project.
If you are among the unlucky students, staff and faculty who occasionally need to access resources on microfilm or fiche, you might find that you need some assistance!
If someone has never used a microfilm/form printer and asks you for help, what do you do?
If you can leave the desk, please go with the person to try to help. There are directions at each station.
Please feel free to ask for a lesson anytime.
Who can help?
Ask a Circ Supervisor.
Ask an ILL Supervisor or ILL student staff. They can often help – if they are available. They are experts at using the microforms equipment.
If someone reports a problem with printing microfilm/forms, and you can leave the desk, please go with the person to find out what the problem is.
Do not refer microfilm printer problems to the Help Desk.
Please refer the problem to a Circ or ILL supervisor.
Supervisors – please alert Rich. Or Charlie Conway or Chip Winner in Rich’s absence.
