How to find a librarian

We don’t have “Librarian on Duty” hours during intersession because we receive so few questions.  But we’re still around!  The go/askus page tells you how to find us.  Note that it now includes “Today’s Hours” in the sidebar!

  • During regular hours, the best thing to do is to call x5496.  That number rings in all librarian offices, and one of us should be available to help on the phone or in person.
  • At any hour, you also can use to the go/askalibrarian form, which sends an email to all librarians.

Please encourage all researchers to use the phone and form, too!

Library Reserve personal copies

Personal copies of books and media that were on reserve for Spring Term are now ready to be picked up by faculty (or by someone on the faculty member’s behalf). The items are on carts in my work area and listed in alphabetic order by last name. Please simply hand the items over to the faculty member — no need to check out, desensitize, etc. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks, Kellam

Replacement NExpress Slips Behind the Circ Desk

I have printed out a small stack of blue replacement NExpress slips next to the check-in computer, above the printer at Circ. These should be filled out when a NExpress book is returned without its jacket/sleeve.  They will only replace books when checked in with a “b.”  You will include your initials, date of return and patron name. This information will be helpful to the ILL/NExpress staff when processing their returns. Thank you for your help.

Printing NExpress Slips.

We now have a dedicated printer, stocked constantly with blue paper, for printing the NExpress pull slips.  It’s Lib250blue!

To add this printer to your computer, use the ‘start’ menu on your computer, select ‘Run’ and open:  ‘\\bombay\lib250blue’

When printing NExpress slips just select this printer from the list of possible printers.  After you have printed the NExpress pull slips you will need to collect the slips from the tower printer in Lib250c, the ILL work area behind the Circulation desk.

Returns mania! And other end-of-term reminders

It’s that time of year again — when thousands upon thousands of library materials are returned to us. Here are a few tips to keep in mind during your final shifts of the term:

  • Keep up with returns — don’t let things pile up!
  • Scan books for damage and pull any that are in serious need of repair
  • Scan book carts and make sure that errant items (ie. NExpress, VT Coll, Armstrong, etc.) aren’t being sent to the wrong places
  • Be pro-active and take full carts to the reshelving areas during your shift
  • If you receive an “on the fly” message during check-in, give the item to a supervisor
  • You may field questions about borrowing books over the summer — our borrowing policies apply year-round. Students can borrow a book for the usual four-week loan period and renew via MyMIDCAT. They are also responsible for mailing the item back to us if it’s recalled.

Please let a supervisor know if you have any questions. We’re here to help you during this busy time!

New Canon Digital Cameras at Circ Desk

This is to let everyone know that we now are loaning out Canon “Power Shot” ELPH 100 compact/pocket digital cameras. We now have four of these added to our inventory.  They are sophisticated little cameras; reliable, easy to use,  turning out high-quality photos.  The Power Shot has a built in flash, automatic best image selection, continuous shooting and many other beneficial features. Everyone who borrows one will enjoy taking photos. We appreciate having them to loan out. Check them out when you can!
