User Services Weekly Report

Circulation Services – Circ, Reserves, and Stacks

Statistics: linear feet of the Music monographs: 2508.5
Number of circ staff in walking casts: 2 (practically an epidemic!)
Overnight gate count the first night of 24/7: 172 passes through the gate
Highlights: (Progress towards Goals, accomplishments)
Armstrong:
• Very heavy ILL activity
• Heavy plotter (Not to be confused with Harry Potter) use
• Evaluating Google Calendar for student scheduling use
• Lots of student subs
• Busy week before Thanksgiving
• A few Winter reserves
• Preparing a large bindery shipment
Music:
• Measured entire monograph collection
• Christmas music lending! (‘Tis the season)
Davis Family:
• 24/7
• Updated online hours through April
• Met with Terry and Steve to discuss DVD and other media issues
• Student schedule very active with subs
• Middlebury Video Rental saw a lot of business before break
• Attended Zero Inbox workshop
• Resident of Neptune wants an intergalactic patron type created – is threatening to sue for discrimination in intergalactic small claims court
• Planning for student training sessions in January
Stacks:
• LOTS of reshelving activity – head still above water
• Down one reshelving student (ankle injury, non-work-related)
• Shelf measuring progressing well (Thanks Dennis and Maura!); G’s, bound periodicals, and reference done. Commencing with the P’s
Reserves:
• Finished a surprisingly enjoyable online course on copyright and fair use
• Still processing some fall reserves – Winter trickling in as well
• Updating wiki on fall procedures
• Documenting space needs behind the desk for reserves in anticipation of The Move
CT team: (missed meeting) Prepping for LMS info sessions next week
Space Team: Meeting with Music Faculty this week to discuss two possible scenarios

Challenges:
• Outer front doors locking issues adding confusion to the bedlam of 24/7
• Student confusion over schedule (24/7)
• Getting patrons out of the library Saturday after Thanksgiving
• Students returning billed items without informing us, then angry that they have not been credited
• No ref librarians on duty (or around) Wednesday before break – circ staff helped out as best they could with patron who had a paper due
