Workgroups; Circulation Services – Circ, Reserves, and Stacks
Highlights: (Progress towards Goals, accomplishments)
• Reserves
o Sent email to all new faculty re: Fall term reserves
o LS reserves coming in: lots of film screenings and questions about screenings
o Getting Karin ready to cover reserves during my two week absence
o BL: so far so good! Lots of teaching re: activating accounts, finding reserves, making requests. Spent Wed doing one-on-one training with Ref liaison and new hire at BL
o Keys: added 2nd copy of MBH booth key; noted other details on Projectionist master keys
• Space Team: Met with Terry re: space questions that involve his departments; review of LIS statistics/surveys to determine where the gaps in information are
• CT Team: planning strategies before our meeting with the ADs
• Armstrong
o Armstrong is still pretty quiet, but starting to have some bursts of activity
o Morgan will do some training this week on the updated ILL program
o New staff training
o fac/staff laptops are hot items
o 161 lab will start being used for classes this week
o students are working on shelf-reading
• Stacks
o Moved into my new space at Davis 250K, computer and phone all hooked up. Have a few files to move over.
o Working on Carrel and locker keys project, replacing keys that were lost or broken with replacements that Steve had ordered.
• Music Library
o Mini-scores weeded and withdrawn
o Shift of MT’s complete
o Next will be DVD/VHS integration and Oversize books shift
o Still lots of holes in the ceiling from construction
o Activity picking up with 6 and 7- week LS
• Davis Family Library
o The students dusted and vacuumed the VHS shelves in the Circ area.
o There were a lot of new books coming through, one side of the new book shelf was completely cleared and books put into circulation.
o Two book searches were conducted, without much success, but several books were found.
o very busy this past Saturday with seven week schools, Dexter was a great help. The students had many questions and needed assistance finding books in midcat.
o The faculty/staff laptops are in high demand at the moment, PC especially.
o The Library Circulation mailbox was fairly busy.
o New staff training, adjusting to new schedules
o Heavy activity
o Moving paper forms online (or getting rid of them entirely)
o Passing the torch – we’ll miss you Elin!
Challenges:
o Several “urgent” requests for Fall and Winter term reserves; trying to manage expectations during the busy start of Summer term
o Confusion re: Panasonic camcorders; resolved with new & clearer title/call number in Mill
• Class being taught in the classroom upstairs in the Music Library has presented access (before 9 am, when we open) and noise issues
• There was one laptop that was lent to a French Professor for a month, but no one knows how this happened.
• F/S Laptops being used for LS registration has depleted our supply at a high-use time
• Bi-Hall staff wanting delivery of ILL items to Armstrong
