Main Library Room Reservations

A clarification about the who/what/where of Main Library room scheduling.
Rooms 105, 145 and 221 are scheduled through Doreen Bernier – LIS Administration Lib 250E (behind the Main Circ Desk) @ x5595 or by email dbernier@middlebury.edu Mon – Fri 9 – 5
Rooms 150 A-D and 240A/B are scheduled through CTLR x 3131
Room 220 (Wilson media lab) is scheduled through Joe Antonioli x3062 or by email jantonio@middlebury.edu
All other classrooms are scheduled through Scheduling Office – Event Management – go/schedule.
If a room has not been reserved, it can be used on a first come first served basis during times when scheduling services are unavailable. Please keep in mind that advance reservations always have priority.
Circ Supervisors – in a pinch – you can schedule Library rooms in Outlook.
25live use is restricted to Scheduling staff.

Office 2007

A reminder that Office 2007 is now available. Check out this post on the LIS blog – it has some very cool features, including RSS functionality to make following the Circ and LIS blogs even easier!

With Outlook 2007, users can subscribe to RSS feeds in their email client.
Add an RSS Feed through the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Account Settings dialog box
1.On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
2.On the RSS Feeds tab, click New.
3.In the New RSS Feed dialog box, type or press CTRL+V to paste the URL of the RSS Feed. For example, http://www.example.com/feed/main.xml. (to find the url for the rss feed, just click on the “RSS” symbol on the blog you want to follow)
4.Click Add.
5.Click OK.

Overdue Library Materials

Please alert a supervisor to any overdue materials that are being requested by others – especially high demand items like media, equipment and reserves.

Circ staff procedures – following up on overdue materials.
General policy: Overdue materials
* There are no overdue fines, but keeping library materials past their stated due dates will result in loss of borrowing and requesting privileges
* The Borrowing system will automatically block borrowing and requesting privileges if library materials are kept beyond stated due dates; once the items are returned, the block is automatically cleared
* Reserve, media equipment, ILL, NExpress, hold and recalled materials are in high demand by our user community
* Items in high demand will prompt a manual block if kept beyond stated due dates
* Manual blocks will be added to borrower accounts for overdue materials at the discretion of Circulation staff on the basis of repeated abuse of borrowing privileges
* Manual blocks can only be cleared by speaking directly with a supervisor
* Repeated abuse of borrowing privileges may result in permanent loss of borrowing privileges; and could result in referral for College judicial procedure.

Supervisor Procedure for Follow-up on Overdue Recalls, Holds, Reserves, Equipment, Media, ILL. etc.
* Email borrower; copy Lib Circ mailbox
Edit borrower account:
* Add a manual block- select appropriate type
* Add note field – item type, brief description of issue, your initials, date
Check for previous notes
Three notes indicating problems = consult with Circ Manager about a permanent borrowing block

National Geographic – Hold for GEOG 310

Prof. Jeff Howarth’s Geography 310 class will be coming to Armstrong this week to look at old and new issues of National Geographic.  Please be aware of the following special arrangements in case you’re working when one of them arises:

  • We’re loaning Jeff a book cart to hold the volumes that the students will use.  The book cart is near the supply shelves, marked with a yellow sign.  Don’t reshelve the volumes on this cart!
  • On Wednesday and Friday mornings, both group studies will be reserved for his class.  Some students will probably scatter to other parts of the library.
  • On Thursday or Friday, Jeff or Chester Harvey (Assistant in Science Instruction) might sign out some of the volumes so that they can scan them on the 6th floor.  Signing out journals is, of course, an exception that requires permission from me…and I’ve now given permission to Jeff and Chester for these volumes.

Printing to plotter at Armstrong

Nice job, everyone, on keeping up with the symposium-related questions we received last week.  Some questions were about using the large-format plotter (aka “plotter”) in 209.  Remember that there are instructions for the plotter at go/printing.  Be sure you can find these instructions on your own — you’ll probably be asked about them again soon!  There are a few poster sessions scheduled in the Great Hall in the coming weeks.

Note especially the section on reimbursements.  If a department is covering the cost of printing posters, the department will have asked LIS to credit students’ accounts at the beginning of the semester.  Students with questions about this can contact their departments.

Can’t find a reserve item?

The first thing you should do if you can’t find a reserve item is tell a supervisor about it immediately. It’s critical that we know that something is missing as soon as possible so we can do a thorough search for it. The sooner we know, the sooner we can take steps to replace an item if it’s truly missing. Please help us maintain an organized and complete reserves collection by letting a supervisor know ASAP if something can’t be found. Thanks for your help with this.
