Circ Student of the Week

shooting starCongratulations to Harlem!
Harlem has been nominated by Todd for her help and support in subbing for others at Main and Armstrong Libraries – and for signing up for a hard to fill Friday shift at Armstrong for the Winter Term.
Harlem, thanks for all your good work, your helpful, always kind and cheerful customer service and for your willingness to jump in wherever and whenever needed. Stop by Main Circ for your prize – a really yummy bag of chocolate biscotti cookies from my favorite NYC bakery. 🙂

Happy Friday to all – stop by Main Circ for a chocolate to celebrate Friday!

Evaluation forms – J-term 2010

Hi all,  Just as we did last fall Armstrong will once again be a collection point for course response forms starting 1/21 and ending at 5 pm on Friday January 29.    Students filling out the forms have been instructed that they can turn the forms in at Armstrong Library.    When you receive a form it will be in an envelope.   You are to immediately deposit the envelope (form) in the collection box located on the floor  near the calculator drawer.    Please do not hesitate to ask Carrie, Nancy or Todd if you have any questions.

Hold notes in Mill for Reserve items

A reminder to make hold notes for Reserve items as brief and informative as possible. Here’s an example of a good one:

THEA0101-S10 Medeiros

This tells me everything I need to know (course, semester, faculty), and is short enough for all of the text to appear on the hold slip that’s printed. Any “special” info can follow afterward, such as:

THEA0101-S10 Medeiros, 1 day loan

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for your help as we gear up for a busy Spring semester.

Circ student of the week

starCongratulations to Brittany – our Circ student-of-the week!
Brittany, thanks for your strong work ethic, for consistently arriving on time, for regularly subbing for others, for always being ready to jump into routine and assigned tasks, for the enthusiasm you bring to the workplace, and for the friendly and helpful customer and borrower services you provide.
There is a smiling Lindt chocolate snowman waiting for you at Main Circ.

Supervisors and students – please send me your nominations by Thursday of every week!

Happy Friday!
To celebrate our January Birthdays – there is chocolate for all at Main Circ!

Wireless Survey – please help

From the LIS blog:
Despite the recent increase in wireless capacity in the Main Library, some users are still experiencing problems. LIS needs to gather information about where and when the problems are occurring, so we can address them. We have a survey, available at go/libwireless to collect the information we need. If you’ve had problems using wireless in the Main Library please take a couple of minutes to complete the survey – anonymously if you like.
Thanks!

Equipment: give camcorders to supervisors for check-in!

A reminder for student workers at Main: when any piece of equipment that comes in a bag is returned, student workers should NOT check in the equipment but give the bag to the supervisor on duty. This includes firewire drives, fac/staff laptops, iPods, digital cameras, LCD projectors, the conference phone, the digital presenter, memory card readers, and most importantly, camcorders. Currently there are 3 flash HD camcorders which checked in without all of their pieces. In all 3, the power adapter, which is the only way to charge the battery, was missing. These power adapters cost $82 each and put the whole camcorder out of circulation until they can be ordered and delivered.

So please don’t check-in any returned equipment in bags. Instead, hand it over to the supervisor on duty. They will check throroughly to make sure all the pieces have been returned, and contact the borrower if pieces are missing. Thanks!
